As is well known, decorating in style does not always come easy. For those turning to the biggest interior design brands, the latest trend has been the same for all: aesthetics rhyming with ethics.

Over the years, the most important events in the field – including the Salone del Mobile – have dedicated large exhibiting spaces to sustainable homes more and more frequently.

Furnishings from the most prestigious international brands are being made from sustainable materials, and attention to supply chains has increased.

Let’s start from an iconic piece that often makes a difference – chairs. Kartell has introduced A.I., made from 100% recycled materials. Its thermoplastic thermopolymer comes from “pure” waste material, i.e. uncontaminated.

This allows to respect the aesthetics and resistance standards needed for premium-quality chairs. A.I. also stands out for being the first design seat created by Artificial Intelligence. Philippe Starck’s drawings and Kartell’s expertise have combined innovation with sustainability.

Another luxury ethical seat is Mater’s “he-she” chair. Having always embraced ethical design, the North-European brand has opted for natural woven wickerwork on this style. Besides being made from natural raw materials, this piece is also sustainable because of a supply chain where work supports people, enhances local crafts, and protects the environment.

Besides chairs, Affreschi&Affreschi is a leader in fashionable wall decorations: the Carrara marble dust and the Roman travertine are just two of the 27 raw materials used.

The brand’s designs are made with the  environment’s health in mind, as they do not include any plastics or volatiles potentially harmful to humans and the environment.
