Dimora delle Balze in Noto: “Sicilian Love”

Perhaps it’s the location, resting like a petal in the heart of the Mediterranean, or the intense, fruity perfume which fills the air with a thousand nuances perceptible almost all year round; or the heritage of the most ancient and highly evolved civilisations of the past, from the Greeks to the Arabs, from the Romans to the Normans who moulded it, creating the most magnificent and unique architecture; or maybe it is the passion, wisdom and depth of spirit of its people who have given us illustrious Thinkers, Philosophers, Artists… It is for all these reasons that Sicily has always held a unique fascination, not to be found anywhere else…

It is in this land so rich in History, Beauty, Nature and Flavours, nestled in the wild hills of the hinterland between the cities of Noto and Syracuse, that we have discovered a special place for you which embodies the very essence of the Mediterranean… A place that welcomes your soul, frees your senses and reinvigorates your mind.

The Dimora delle Balze estate was originally a farm built at the beginning of the 1800s by a noble family from Palazzolo Acreide, one of the towns in the Val or Vallo di Noto which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. The estate was the noble family’s summer home and it extends over approximately 27 hectares, 14 of which are still used for organic farming.

Today the structure and architecture are still intact thanks to sympathetic restoration work by the current owner and they have been further enhanced by elegant design details. Inside there is a traditional, spacious quadrangle courtyard, flanked on one side by what was once the farm’s residential quarters, stables and storehouses, while, on the other side, there is an old gate which leads to the manor house where the rooms still retain the original frescoes from the Risorgimento period.

The estate comprises 12 suites, each individually designed with different styles and colour schemes, and each with its own concept and story to tell. The suites are named after works by Sicilian artists from the worlds of cinema to art, poetry to opera. As such, the property pays homage to the extraordinary artists who have made this beautiful region renowned across the world.

Dimora delle Balze is a magical, evocative place, the perfect setting for unique events. The reception areas are elegant and welcoming. Guests may choose from a range of internal courtyards, gardens, the pool area and the lemon house.

It‘s not surprising that it is one of the properties selected by Dr Beatrice Brialdi as part of her portfolio of ‘Castelli e Dimore Storiche’ (Castles and Historic Residences), a collection of period properties noted for their history and Italian hospitality.

It is a location where there are no limits on the imagination, a place loved by all those in search of excellence. It is particularly suitable for event planners organising niche events, e.g. Galanthea, a young company in Milan who are breathing life into a new era of luxury creative events, stylishly combining tradition and modernity.

Dimora delle Balze is the ideal location from which to uncover the true character of a marvellous and unique region which masterfully evokes a million sensations, stirring up emotions which remain forever in the heart.
