A magnificent September of art under the banner of gallery weekends, unmissable appointments for fans of contemporary art. Perfect opportunity for a last trip waiting for a new season of exhibitions.

A stimulating opportunity for collectors and art lovers, the gallery weekends offer a vast program of gallery exhibitions and events involving the main public and private art institutions.

It begins on 3 September in Brussels with 38 open galleries, a full calendar of collateral events and the special Generation Brussels initiative curated by Evelyn Simons.

The entire program is available on the Brussels Gallery Weekend website, enhanced so that the public can book admission or visit the galleries from the comfort of their home.

Given the current context it has been a real challenge to make our event sustainable. It is thanks to some great cooperation, and the enormous encouragement and trust placed in us by our public and private partners, that the Brussels Gallery Weekend can go ahead this year. We are delighted, and this once again demonstrates just how dynamic and resilient the contemporary art sector is in Brussels. Furthermore, we hope to maintain the loyalty and trust of the public

tells Sybille du Roy de Blicquy, director of Brussels Gallery Weekend.

On 4 September, from 11 in the morning to 10 in the evening, it will be the day of the previews of the approximately fifty galleries of the DC Open, the gallery weekend organized jointly by the galleries of Düsseldorf and Cologne. A viewing room will also be active for each gallery.

DC Open is in its twelfth edition and has greatly contributed to electing the Rhineland one of the most interesting German regions for contemporary art thanks to the artistic community to which everyone, public and private, contributes. In importance it is second only to Berlin, the city where the gallery weekend format was born in 2004. This year Gallery Weekend Berlin will be held from 11 to 13 September in conjunction with Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend, organized by the Arte_Madrid association.

Apertura celebrates its 10 + 1 edition and begins this first year of the second decade with an approach to other sectors of contemporary creation. In fact, the 2020 edition promotes collaborations with other disciplines such as dance.

Also on the same weekend you can choose to go to Zurich. Zurich Art Weekend, which traditionally precedes the opening of Art Basel, enjoys the collaboration of prestigious institutes such as ETH Zurich – the main university of science and technology in the city -, ZHdK – the University of the Arts in Zurich – and the University Hospital. Since 2019 Zurich Art Weekend has been twinned with Gallery Weekend Beijing thanks to the patronage of the diplomat and art collector Uli Sigg. The partnership with Beijing allows for a cultural exchange that takes the form of exhibitions, conferences and tours that allow us to extend the imprint of contemporary Swiss art to the global art scene.

From 17 to 20 September we return to Spain, where Barcelona Gallery Weekend will take place, conceived and promoted by Art Barcelona (Abe) in collaboration with the Gremi de Galeries d’Art de Catalunya. This year the event will involve some new faces such as the recently opened Chiquita Room gallery in the Sant Antoni district and H2O opened in the Gràcia district together with the more famous Galeria Cortina, which is participating for the first time. Of note are the itineraries for families organized by the independent curator Alexandra Laudo, founder of the Heroínas de la Cultura platform.
