Murano Glass Beyond the Barricades: jersey barriers become art with Murano glass

Murano Glass Beyond the Barricades is more than an artistic project, it is a challenge: applying power propulsive and communicative of Murano glass to interpret reality, transforming jersey barriers, anonymous and gray tools for road prevention and urban security in reinforced concrete. The challenge was gathered by thirteen master glassmakers who interpreted the jersey barriers, transforming them in works of art full of meaning, culture and beauty, capable of expressing freedom, art and life going against and beyond any physical or mental barrier.

The thirteen works will be exhibited and visible to the public free of charge, from 9 to 16 September 2018, to Bugno Art Gallery of Venice, point of reference for fans and collectors of modern art, contemporary and copyright photography. The exhibition is included in the events of The Venice Glass Week and is intended to pose the attention of the public on the importance and vitality of the artistic and creative activity of the master glassmakers.

From blown glass to solid glass, from plate processing to cast glass processing, from traditional workmanship to the most avant-garde: in these thirteen works created by famous masters glassmakers take shape ideas, messages, visions. Missiles stopped by the force of the rainbow, symbol of the peace, plants and flowers that bloom among the cracks in the cement, oceans divided between clean water and water polluted. These are just some of the very topical issues interpreted by the artisans of Murano glass, Italian excellence famous all over the world.

Murano Glass Beyond the Barricades is a project born from an idea by Luciano Gambaro, who has coordinated the work of the thirteen glassworks in Murano: «The goal of the project – explained Luciano Gambaro himself – is to show the public the communicative ability of glass: its innovative strength to interpret contemporary issues in a disruptive and vital way. With Murano Glass Beyond the Barricades we bring the Murano glass to confront the actuality, we make it alive, fluid, in material evolution. With this project we want once again to reiterate what is our great ability teachers, a challenge that I think has been very well won“.

Murano Glass Beyond The Barricades is organized in collaboration and with the patronage of the Consortium Promovetro di Murano, manager of the Veneto region, Vetro Artistico di Murano, Venice Confartigianato, Bugno Art Gallery. In September the photographs of the works will be collected in one book with the preface by Professor Jean Blancheart.
