They come from 14 countries around the world to celebrate the marriage of beauty and creativity. It’s the 37 finalists of the first edition of Meneghetti International Art Prize (Miap) that will be held on saturday, June 9th in the enchanting Umbrian village of Lizori (Campello sul Clitunno) after the selection of 341 artists candidates from 32 countries. Four winners will win the sum of 5,000 euros, one for each of the 4 sections – painting, sculpture, fashion and design, the publication of a catalog, a dedicated exhibition and a period of stay in Lizori, a charming Umbrian village between Assisi and Spoleto. Lizori is the name with which Borgo San Benedetto (hamlet of Campello sul Clitunno) is known in Italy and abroad. A medieval settlement that sees its rebirth from the late seventies, period in which the entire recovery of the village (at that time was in a state of abandonment) was undertaken and successfully completed and which has returned to the collective enjoyment a marvelous place that immediately became an international laboratory of art, culture and education.
The Award, which falls within the program of the European Year of Cultural Heritage for the enhancement of humanistic culture, was established by the Antonio Meneghetti Scientific and Humanistic Research Foundation, with the aim of promoting creative expression as an aspiration to beauty. This was the philosophy of Professor Antonio Meneghetti who created the Foundation in 2007. The Miap is dedicated to Professor Antonio Meneghetti, who died in 2013, who declined the principles of ontopsychology in various areas of culture and science, definable as the aspiration to refer to models of harmony and balance of Humanism.

Mattioli SpA; Bruna Biamino, coordinator of the Department of Photography of the IED in Turin.
And the awarding place could only be a locus amoenus (latin for pleasant place) as “Lìzori”, fancy name with which, for forty years has been known in Italy and abroad Borgo S. Benedetto, a hamlet of the Municipality of Campello sul Clitunno, in the province of Perugia, in the heart of Umbria. A sweet and musical name, coined for fun by Antonio Meneghetti, which contains three words in one: “Lì”, italian adverb that means “there”; “Zo”, etymon of the Greek verb “to live”; “Ri”, always from the ancient Greek, orao (ὁράω), that means “to see”. “There where – life – sees”, “there where – life – contemplates itself”. The participating artists were asked to interpret one of Meneghetti’s themes: ” The function of beauty in art as an essential element in the life of man”. Talented artist and designer, Meneghetti, consistently with the principles of ontopsychology, has always pursued beauty in his works, refusing the drift of conceptual art to the ugly, the monstrous, which he called “pathological art, daughter of the tragedies of the short century “.
The works will be on display at the exhibition space of the Palazzo Ducale of Lìzori (Castello di Pissignano) until 15 July 2018.
