This year’s edition of the Amsterdam light festival will feature something a little bit different: designed by London-based designer and contemporary artist Gali May Lucas, “Absorbed by Light” aims at making people aware of the time that millennials spend on the internet by showing how people are so focused on their phones that they forget their surroundings.

This incredible contemporary art installation has been on display in Amsterdam since the 29th of November, and will be visible until the 20th of January.

It’s an interpretation of the theme of this year’slight festival, “the medium is the media”: three figures with a very focused expression, sitting next to each other, staring at their smartphones. When the sun sets, these pieces of art become even more realistic and enthralling: the statues’ faces light up, as if they were illuminated by their screen, and their fingers are sculpted to mimic typing and swiping gestures.
