How did you come up with the idea of introducing cultural events at Savini Milano 1867?

Our Milanese, Italian and foreign customers often ignore who these personalities were, and what their historical and artistic contribution was to the city, and to Savini Milano 1867. To satisfy their curiosity, we have created an unprecedented cultural program

explains Sebastian Luca Gatto, the group CEO.

Starting from July, we’ll offer a busy calendar of events open to the public that will take place in our Sala Toscanini, on the first floor of our restaurant, and will be hosted by Elisabetta Invernici, a journalist and costume historian who has helped us outlining the whole project

Our ambition at Savini Milano 1867 is to share the story of internationally renowned facts and personalities, and make them known to a wider public both on a geographical and generational basis, so as to raise interest and curiosity for the legends who have made Milan great

Invernici furher explains.

And I fully agree on this decision

What does the program involve?

The first protagonist of this cultural project is Maria Callas, who will be told through music and pictures leading the audience to the discovery of the crucial moments of her personal life and professional career.

The Savini shares an indissoluble bond with Maria Callas. Once out of her scene costumes and off the stage at Teatro La Scala, the famous soprano loved to rest at its tables with friends and colleagues like Visconti, Zeffirelli, Gavazzeni and superintendent Ghiringhelli

Invernici continues.

In July, Savini will hold a series of afternoon events centered on Callas, particularly on her private life as a woman. Guests will listen to a live recount of that 1959 cruise trip where the passion between Aristotele Onassis and the famous singer sparked.Immersed in a ‘50s atmosphere, they will board the Christina, and they will be shown captivating pictures from those legendary 22 days on the Aegean Sea, as if leafing through a photo album: ground trips, gala dinners, laughter and nights of passion between Aristo and Maria, a stage where Callas paraded a unique diva wardrobe.

Maria Callas Savini Milano La Divina

July 1959. Only a few restless hours left before the cruise of the century takes off to the sea: the cruise of the burning passion of Onassis and Callas. The triumph at Covent Garden and Ari’s unmistakable advances are already behind, just as the 473 red roses in Paris, the last dates at La Scala and the luggage packed with Biki. Her stomach tightening with angst, after being on a memorable diet for weeks, Maria turns her cocktail in her hands. Shall I go, or shall I stay? By the time the light goes down beyond the curtains at Savini, she has made up her mind: I’ll go! And a Greek fire will spark…

As the story ends, to the notes of Callas’s most famous arias, guests will taste the cocktail “La Divina”, specifically created by Savini Milano 1867 in collaboration with Alejandro Mazza (Amaro Ramazzotti’s brand ambassador) to celebrate the soprano.

Could you tell us more about the cocktail?

Here is the recipe:

60 ml of Amaro Ramazzotti, 20 ml of lemon juice, 10 ml of lime, 20 ml of syrup of mixed flowers honey, and 3 sprays of Sicilian oranges.

The ingredients used in the cocktail are chosen for their “therapeutic” effects on voice, and make for a tonic, invigorating elixir.

As Sebastian Luca Gatto explains

the drink was launched last May 2019 for the third edition of the international conference Milano Voice Meeting, inaugurated in 2017 by two young doctors from Milan: Francesco Mozzanica, otolaryngologist and researcher, and Carlo Robotti, an otolaryngology resident. Savini Milano 1867 is partner of the event

Our voice is the most extraordinary means we have of participating in life, and Milano Voice Meeting aimed at highlighting this incredible, precious resource and promoting his protection, on a medical basis but also as far as its communicative, expressive and artistic potential is concerned

stresses Carlo Robotti.

Are there any other events on Callas coming up?

We’ll surely hold one on her look, and tell about her experience at Sartoria Biki in via Sant’Andrea, Milan

explains Elisabetta Invernici.

Biki and her assistant Alain Reynaud were real beauty advisors to Callas, and managed to turn a clumsy singer into a divine soprano. Following their advice, Callas studied her make-up so that her eyebrows and mouth would highlight her beauty

Are you also preparing any particular food and wine specialties?

Our menu already offers classic dishes inspired by Milan’s culinary tradition. Among these, Callas’s favorite were the Milanese-style risotto, marrowbone and cutlet. Enjoying them at our tables will be a real pleasure for her fans

confirms Sebastian Luca Gatto.

What does your fall calendar include?

This cultural cycle celebrating Callas will end in September with a top-secret international event inevitably tied to the Fashion Week that Milan stages with great drive every year

says Sebastian Luca Gatto.

The following events will be centered on Marinetti and the Futurists, Giuseppe Verdi, Gabriele D’Annunzio… but I won’t tell you more, it’s a surprise!
