Design a BRAFA Art Fair

BRAFA, one of the most prestigious art fairs in the world, famous for its eclecticism and high-quality fine art, will be taking place at Brussels Expo – Heysel, from January 29 to February 5, 2023.

Once again, the fair will strive to meet the high expectations of collectors and art lovers with a line-up of 130 world’s leading galleries including 9 Swiss galleries specialising in old, modern and contemporary art and design.

This year, alongside Art Nouveau, Contemporary art, Old Masters and many more specialities, BRAFA Art Fair will also be offering its visitors a beautiful selection of design. We would love to give you a glimpse of some the extraordinary design pieces that will be presented at the fair.

Astronave Oro or Golden Spaceship is a sculpted coloured glass statement piece designed by Foddis & Baisi. This atypical work of art will be displayed on the stand of Maison Rapin (Stand 15), a Parisian gallery specialized in rare decorative art and design pieces by Italian and Belgian artists.

Exhibited by Axel Vervoordt (Stand 29), a table in pequi wood designed by José Zanine Caldas. Caldas is a multi-talented Brazalian artist known for his organic and sculptural creations. By chiselling pieces directly from a large log of wood, he created this  masterpiece in which he displays the power of  wood and its beauty as a material.

For their first participation at the BRAFA Art Fair, Galerie Pascal Cuisinier (Stand 92) will be presenting another example of design at its finest: the famous double balanced floor lamp by Pierre Guariche. The gallery is specialised in historical and French design from 1951 to 1961.

Flora cabinet with hand-coloured paper by Josef Frank, together with a pair of armchairs in Brazilian hardwood by Studio d’Arte Palma and a beautiful floor lamp made of lacquered metal designed by Paavo Tynell. With this magnificent selection, the Morentz gallery (Stand 67) combines historical design from various regions and decades.

The easy chair by Sybold Van Ravesteyn is extremely rare, since this type of chair was only made for special projects in very limited numbers. For this reason, they seldom appear on the market. Nonetheless, Galerie Van den Bruinhorst (Stand 123) will be exhibiting this exceptional piece of furniture at the BRAFA Art Fair.

Gokelaere & Robinson G. (Stand 35) will be presenting a selection of Italian and Brazilian historic furniture and lighting fixtures created by the greatest designers of the twentieth century, including this hand-painted folding screen by Piero Fornasetti. Exceptional and timeless pieces of furniture from both hemispheres will coexist to offer an original panorama of the excellence of modern design in the twentieth century.

NEW HOPE GALLERY, George Nakashima (USA, 1905-1990) Conoid Room Divider, 1984, Red wild cherry, pandanus cloth
Other exhibitors include New Hope Gallery (Stand 101) who will unveil historic pieces of the second half of the twentieth century by George Nakashima, Paul Evans, Phillip Lloyd Powell, Poul Henningsen… for its first participation.
Galerie Mathivet (Stand 3) will present a wide range of pieces of the twentieth century: tables by Diego Giacometti, a bench by François-Xavier Lalanne, an elegant pedestal table of 1933 by Ruhlmann, a set of furniture from the 50s by Jules Leleu.
Robertaebasta (Stand 97) will surprise visitors with pieces from the 1940s to the 1980s by celebrated Italian designers: Gio Ponti, Franco Albini, Ettore Sottsass, Afra & Tobia Scarpa, Gae Aulenti.
