Entitled “Through the looking glass”.
Today marks the end of the XXXV edition of Salone Internazionale del Libro of Turin, staged from 18 May in the spaces that have characterised it for years: Halls 1, 2, 3 and Oval of Lingotto Fiere and the Lingotto Congress Centre, and this year, for the first time, also Pista 500, an art project developed by the Pinacoteca Agnelli.
The theme of this edition is “Through the looking glass”, which is not just a theme but almost a motto, a desire that leads those who express it to cross over everyday life and passivity to step into new worlds where the real and the fantastic are mixed, where everything is possible. The wonder behind the mirror is captured by this year’s manifesto illustrated by Italian artist Elisa Talentino.
The opening of the Show was anticipated by an event organised in collaboration with Rai Radio3 that was staged on the evening of Wednesday 17 May, live from Turin’s Auditorium Rai ‘Arturo Toscanini’ at 8 pm. This year the title was: Arrampicarsi sugli specchi – Musica e Parole per Alice; with Stefano Bollani and the participation of Valentina Cenni.
International authors of Salone Internazionale del Libro of Turin
There were many authors taking part in the XXXV edition of the Turin International Book Fair. There were many Italian names, but also international ones. Such as the Spaniard Fernando Aramburu who presented ‘Hijos de la fábula’, Peter Cameron with his collection of short stories ‘Aria’, Javier Castillo brought his latest text ‘El juego del alma’ thanks to the collaboration with the Cervantes Institute. Andrew Sean Greer, 2018 Pulitzer Prize winner, is back with his new adventure ‘Less is Lost’. There was also great expectation for nigerian Nobel Prize winner Wole Soyinka, who led readers through the pages of his forthcoming volume “Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth”.
Salone Off enlivens the whole city
The whole city celebrated the event. Salone Off returned to enliven the neighbourhoods of the eight districts of the City of Turin, some municipalities of the Metropolitan City and several cities in the Piedmont Region. A great event spread throughout the city and the regional area, which counted about 600 events in over 300 spaces. Lots of cultural initiatives focused on readers, authors, film screenings, readings, theatre performances, readings and workshops for children and young people, literary dinners, exhibitions, debates and workshops.
