Hi-tech and sustainability at Altaroma

Curtains up today on the Rome Fashion Week. Organized by Altaroma and running until Sunday July 7, the event will welcome over 100 designers and around 400 students from fashion academies at the PratiBus industrial district. One year after the first edition, this 5,000 mmultifunctional exhibition space, located in the Prati neighborhood, turns once again into the Fashion Week headquarters.

Altaroma has come back under a new identity, now supporting young talents and independent brands, with a special emphasis on education.

Highlights will include the fourth edition of Showcase, an exhibition project offering Italian brands a chance to rotate daily and showcase their apparel and accessories collections, for an overall  70 designers counting several new entries. For the first time, Showcase will also enable on-site purchases via designers’ e-commerce channels.

After taking part in ShowcaseDassùYAmoroso, a brand founded by Stefano Dassù and Pasquale Amoroso, will hit the runways with its SS 2020 collection. Italo Marseglia will also attend, to present creations made from recycled fabrics and companies’ archive materials and processed through new technologies, in line with the brand’s sustainable stylistic choices.

To honor the strong bond that ties Rome to high fashion, designers Sabrina Persechino and Sylvio Giardina will also unveil their FW 19/20 collections.

This year’s schedule brings back Who is on next?, a successful scouting project addressing new fashion talents that has seen the participation of prestigious names like Arthur ArbesserMarco de VincenzoGabriele Colangelo and Paul Andrew. Altaroma is holding an exhibition that displays works by the 4 finalists in the accessories section (HibouramaIuriMaiorano and Nahiot Hernandez), as well as a collective runway show featuring the 5 finalists in the ready-to-wear section (Bav TailorDaniele CarlottaFederico CinaJing Yu and Twins Florence).

The winner will be announced by a jury made of Suzy Menkes, journalist with Vogue InternationalEmanuele Farneti, editor-in-chief of Vogue ItaliaSilvia Venturini Fendi, Altaroma’s chairwoman, Carlo Capasa, chairman of the National Chamber for Italian Fashion, and several others representatives of the international fashion system.

Fashion Digital Night is also coming back with its smart, sustainable fashion. The event will feature the exhibition of over 20 projects on wearable technology, digital fabrication and bio materials, and will be a chance to meet manufacturers and designers who will explain the technical and technological principles underlying apparel development. The night will be livened up with a media art performance by Spacetik Collective.

On a different note, Rome Is My Runway is this edition’s space dedicated to local creatives, with two special collective runway shows featuring designers from the Lazio region.
The A.I. Artisanal Intelligence section will research and promote new forms of creativity, and innovative artistic expressions tied to the values of Italian traditional craftsmanship.
New events will include Rebelpin – Fashion awards by Acte (the European Textiles Collectivities Association), a fashion contest that is now landing in Rome after walking runways at the other European Fashion Weeks. An expanding network with over 70 members from 7 European countries, Acte aims at driving textile companies that produce apparel, leatherwear, footwear and accessories to future connections with emerging creative talents.

As usual, Altaroma will present pieces by the fashion schools taking to the runway: Accademia di Costume e ModaAccademia Altieri Moda e ArteAccademia del Lusso, Accademia di Belle Arti, Accademia ItalianaAccademia KoefiaAccademia Moda Maiani and Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, alongsideAccademia di Belle Arti in Frosinoneand Naples. The event will end on a runway show by finalists in the 9th edition of the national contest Professione Moda Giovani Stilisti – Cna Federmoda.

Thanks to the synergy created between Anita Lo Mastro, Senior Advisor of the publisher of Excellence Magazine, and Marina Corazziari Jewels Designer and Production Designer, Excellence supports AltaRoma, as media partner to spread the contents of the event, through its international on and off platform line, with the aim of supporting the dissemination of Made in Italy and sharing a positive message on the “state of health” of the Italian fashion segment and the creative power of young talents.
