NYFW Spring/Summer 2020: new round, new race. In September, summer is still on only in the fashion world, where the new collections for the next warm season are unveiled. As usual, the fashion tour sets off from New York.

The crisis that had hit the Big Apple’s most glamorous week – with defections by labels like Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham and the press’s dissent on the new creations – finally seems to be nothing more than a distant memory. All thanks to Tom Ford, the current new President of the CFDA, who not only reduced the event to 5 days, but also invited a legion of foreign journalists.

This resulted in a NYFW whose schedule featured several different brands – such as Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs, to name a few – and boasted numerous guest stars.

This first Spring/Summer 2020 Fashion Week already identified some key trends: animal prints in an innovative zebra pattern, a mannish style and grunge echoes. Needless to say, color experimentations were not lacking either.

According to the Pantone Color Institute, which releases trend forecasting as to colors, the twelve major hues for Spring/Summer 2020 convey a sense of the familiar that translates into a palette evoking happy feelings and making us feel at ease.

Combining our desire for stability, creativity, and more spontaneous design approaches, the color palette for spring 2020 infuses heritage and tradition with a colorful youthful update that creates strong multi-colored combinations as well as energizing and optimistic pairings

declared Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Some shades were already anticipated at the New York fashion shows and will probably be the protagonists of the collections at the next European Fashion Weeks. From the most vibrant to be most delicate hues, all through the four classic colors, here are all the tones that will be meeting us next summer. And they are perfect for a bold mix-and-match or monochrome outfits.

THE CLASSIC FOUR

Timeless colors, alias the ABC’s of fashion. Pantone Lark is a khaki, a neuter shade, bubbly but sober. Spotted on the catwalks by Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler and Helmut Lang.

Alongside the non-color par excellence, an emblem of elegance is the deep Navy Blazer that clothes outfits by Michael Kors Collection e Rag & Bone with austerity and confidence.

Summer would not be summer without white, so here comes Brilliant White, a tone that projects cleanliness and simplicity. Its Ash variant is a timeless nude, the one seen on trench coats.

THE ON-TREND TWELVE

We will see fashion of all colors!

Flame Scarlet is a bright red exuding confidence and determination. Prabal Gurung knows it well and used it generously. Saffron is a warm yellow reminiscing of the intense spice, just like Cinnamon stick, earthy and enveloping. Orange Peel is a spicy, energizing tone. As delicate as the sunrise sky, pastel Sunlight inspires cheerfulness and smiles, and so does Coral Pink, a welcoming coral pink hue. A soft violet called Grape creates a halo of mystery.

Blue and light blue gradients have their say too. Classic Blue is an infinite night blue sky, Mosaic Blue expresses grace and depth, Faded Denim is a comforting indigo blue that conveys ease, wisely used in the The Row runway show. Biscay Green is sparkling and revitalizing like a splash of water, while Chive is a savory green that imparts balance and a restoring harmony.
