Retro Fit: a new icon for Maison Margiela Paris

The Retro Fit is created on the foundation of the shared familiar values attached to sportswear nostalgia, fusing lo-fi design and hi-fi development. In a search for unexplored dimensions, overstated soles hybridized from those of miscellaneous original trainer styles blend with properties known from snowboarding.

Décortiqué, Maison Margiela’s Artisanal term for reducing an article of clothing to its core, is applied to deconstruct and reproportion the image of the classic sneaker. Employing Anonymity of the Lining – the House’s expression for revealing the inside of a garment or accessory, the Retro Fit is hacked up to reveal its spongy lining, evoking universal youth memories of torn sneakers.
