The prestigious catwalks of Paris Fashion Week were unanimously conquered by the Sheltersuit project.
These are the incredible creations of the designer and stylist Bas Timmer who created the entire sustainable streetwear collection starting exclusively from recycled materials.
What most of all has amazed and continues to do so since the project was born 8 years ago, is the incredible ability to combine style, taste for shapes and never forget the source of inspiration: the practical needs of clothing of the homeless.
The origin of the project
Bas Timmer was studying fashion when he received terrible news 8 years ago.
One of his father’s closest friends died of hypothermia after spending the night in the cold and outdoors, near a homeless shelter that he had not been able to access.
From that moment Bas stopped producing exclusive outerwear forever and started creating a jacket that contained a panel that could be transformed into a sleeping bag, giving it immediately afterwards to a person in need.
From an independent project to the catwalks of Paris
The Sheltersuit collections have become useful and famous in various countries (from South Africa to the United States, from the Netherlands to Europe) precisely because of the attention to the different needs of the homeless based on climate and season at every latitude, but they have remained relegated to the role of an independent project for years.
The turning point came for the fall / winter 2021 2022 collection, when the designer had his first contacts with the famous maison Chloè, which knows high fashion.
The collaboration grew quickly, Chloè provided location know-how and fabrics with which to create new creations.
From here the “jump” to the prestigious catwalks of the Parisian fashion week was simple and well deserved.
