Gucci’s former creative director is now the 11thdesigner to hold the position, following Stan Herman, Sydney Wragge, Norman Norell,Oscar de la Renta, Herbert Kasper, Bill Blass, Mary McFadden, Perry Ellis, Carolyne Roehm and Diane von Furstenberg.

He was elected during a CFDA board meeting focusing on the organization of the upcoming Fashion Awards Gala.

Among its 23 members, the board counts designers and entrepreneurs including Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Reed Krakoff, Tracy Reese and von Furstenberg herself.

As the association’s chairman, one of Ford’s priorities will be revamping the image of the New York Fashion Week, now deeply struggling to find its own identity. According to rumors circulating in the last few days, the NYFW might move to The Shed, the new performing art center recently inaugurated at Hudson Yards, starting right from next September.
