There’s never been a doubt that Edinburgh is a bustling hub of creativity and culture. In a celebration of the city that inspires and celebrates such individuality and talented artists from renowned performers to up and coming talents, the Edinburgh International Festival is where it all comes to a head.
For the majority of August, the best talents of the world flock to Scotland’s capital for an almighty celebration of all things creative. The event, with a 70 year history, puts out a packed schedule year on year featuring a rich curation of theatre, dance, classical music, opera, immersive events, contemporary music, outdoor activities and talks and workshops to inspire and get attendees involved as much as possible.
The first day of Edinburgh International Festival begins with a bang in the form of a classic play by Ibsen adapted and performed by Scottish star James McArdle. That evening (and at other times throughout the festival), explore the area with a night walk that’ll take attendees on a tour of ‘unseen edinburgh’, celebrating the history of the city that sits side by side with the progressive buzz of the city.
Other highlights include Arther Miller’s The Crucible in ballet form, celebrating the Scottish Ballet‘s 50th anniversary; the Los Angeles Philharmonic who’ll travel all the way across the pond to perform pieces by Tchaikovsky and Barber.
Stephen Fry sitting in a grand armchair reading from his trilogy ‘Mythos: Heroes‘; an immersive dance performance in outdoor spaces by Trisha Brown Dance Company; a talk on ‘power, gender and the arts’ and a workshop just for families, to get the whole gang involved in the world of performance, and so much more.
The weather should be hot, the atmosphere exciting and welcoming – Edinburgh International Festival is a great excuse to visit Edinburgh this summer.
