Glacier Express Launches its “Excellence Class” Starting March 2, 2019
The “Slowest Express Train in the World”, the Glacier Express had its maiden voyage in 1930. Today this special train continues to travel on one of the most beautiful railway lines in the world. It links the famous holiday areas of St. Moritz, Davos and Zermatt riding between the Engadine Valley and the Matterhorn.
The panoramic train ride goes over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels along the Swiss Alps winding past remote valleys, sheer rock faces, deep gorges, idyllic mountain villages reaching the highest point at Oberalp Passat 2033 meters above sea level. The oversized train windows offer a clear view of all the sites including two UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Starting March 2 of this year, Glacier Express ups the ante with the launch of its “Excellence Class”.
Passengers were constantly asking for a luxury level experience with more personal service on this train that showcases the most legendary panoramic ride in Switzerland. Ask and you shall receive.
Excellence Class will have a concierge as host in Excellence Class. Guests will be greeted at a welcome desk and check-in on the platform. Luggage will be transported in a dedicated lockable Excellence Class section. Each passenger will have a window seat with a tablet for on-board entertainment. A full-day catering concept will be offered starting with an aperitif and amuse-bouche. During the ride a five-course regional meal accompanied by wines will be served. Later in the afternoon, tea service is offered with special treats. Snacks, soft drinks and juices are provided throughout the ride. For passengers that want to socialize with a signature cocktail, the Glacier Bar is open exclusively for Excellence Class only.
Two new coaches were custom designed for ringing in this new era for Glacier Express luxury level travel. With Excellence Class, Glacier Express is setting new standards for this scenic adventure train ride that is one of the most popular in the world.
