If you’re thinking of getting away for a bit, a city break is ideal. But just because it’s a city break, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be luxurious. With British Airways recently launching a luxury sale, we’ve decided to compile a list of the best luxurious places you can visit for a city break below.
London
If you live in the UK, you’ve probably overlooked London. But, aside from not having to jet across waters and queue at airports, London is filled with so much to see and do, and let’s not forget, a lot of luxury. Chances are you’ve never explored it properly, which means there’s loads to discover. From the history flooded Greenwich, home to the Cutty Sark, to cool Camden filled with hip music venues and intriguing markets, to London’s West End and the boutique bars of Soho, there’s so much to see and do. It can be cheap too, with city based apartments in London just waiting to accommodate you.
Hamburg
Germany is one of the best places to go on holiday, and Hamburg is the ideal stop for those looking for luxury. With a wondrously relaxed vibe, it’s a favourite city amongst Germans and is perfect for families and non-families alike. When the weather is hot head to the upmarket suburbs of Blankenese, and don’t forget to wander around the 160-hectare Alster lake in the city centre. But, for the most luxury, head to the world-famous Opera House for ballet and music.
Copenhagen
One of the best cities to live in the world, you don’t get that name without a little luxury. Explore thousands of years of royal history through the stunning castles, cobbled streets, modernist buildings and harbour-side vistas, offering more culture than you’ll know what to do with. Don’t forget to say hello to the Little Mermaid statue either when you take a walk along the sensational beaches, before diving head first into the museums and thriving fashion scenes.
Porto
Forget Lisbon this year, instead, head to Porto. With a fabulous art scene, idyllic surrounding beaches and a medieval old town to wander around, you won’t know where to start when exploring this stunning city. Start with the monumental spiral tower and the cathedral at the heart of Porto, and if you want your hotel to scream luxury, stay in the Miragaia area near Fontainhas. This place will provide you with stunning views across the Douro River.
Reykjavik
If you don’t want heat, then Iceland offers one of the best city breaks around. With luxury apartments such as the Black Pearl offering wonderful family and non-family options, you’ll be able you relax and unwind here with ease. But let’s not forget the stunning city itself, surrounded by sea and mountains, go and check out a local hot pool to unwind, or catch a show at the Harpa Concert. For the Northern lights, try going between September and April.
