Experience art as a model of life

Talking with Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico, professor at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and economist of art and culture, is always a pleasant meeting as well as a beautiful experience. A talented writer, he is also a theorist of sustainable art.

Well known in the corollary of international artistic curators and highly esteemed critic – he is currently a guest at the Cannes Film Festival – for over twenty years he has been actively involved in Haute Couture (also ethical and social), organizing fashion shows and conferences on the subject, always keeping high attention for our beautiful country through detailed anthropological studies on regional identities.

And he also experienced resilience through his beautiful book “La follia di Oreste”, expressing thoughts and concepts on the human loneliness of this third millennium, reaching out to new technologies and consequent human aridity.

Can sustainable art also mean a good recovery of recycled materials?

Well … I would observe that this is a somewhat ancient concept of ‘sustainability’, which has its own why but certainly does not exhaust the problem. Recycling undeniably has in itself a message to safeguard the planet, therefore limiting or delimiting industrial production, avoiding waste and pollution. Art becomes the spokesperson for this message, becoming a sounding board with a whole long series of artists who work on it. Even if my concept understands this while not exhausting itself in this. In me it means: When can contemporary art be defined as such in the epochs of new technologies? What are the new art forms of creative languages in the age of new technologies?

And again: here is the Creative Note transferred to future generations in the age of new technologies? All questions consequently that await the new way that artists have of expressing themselves. So the concept of the planet and the message that art can give, pertains to a concept of sustainable development that matured in the 1980s of the second half of the last century, analyzed as a starting point, given that the concept of sustainability is enriched every year. in the artistic field of new and important contents. Art, among other things, beautiful, true, seen not only from the side of aesthetic virtuosity, but also good in the Aristotelian sense. A better art, which gives life, capable of giving a social message with a saving action.

We put beauty, good taste, art in its various facets on the table, Abruzzo region so dear to you and consequently the poet. In short, a viaticum that leads straight to the philosophical current of aestheticism.

Aesthetics means many things and certainly not an end in itself. From my point of view, anything that is aesthetically beautiful when it improves me makes me think… embracing personality, consciousness and cognitive activities. Therefore it is difficult to think of a beauty that is not good … not good for nothing but morally edifying.

You have also been a model for various international fashion houses. Do you want to talk about it?

Well, that was a parenthesis, I was just over twenty, I went to New York in the right years, in 80, experiencing a wonderful time as a supermodel but I didn’t want to continue by my choice. I consider all this a great experience that was very useful to me, but I wanted more from life, without however diminishing the fashion business. I therefore consider it a formative moment as a point of arrival that has given me so much by making me discover the humanity of people. A great legacy, finding links, connecting, empathy with those in front of you. This is because a model must be liked not for himself but for what he wears as an art-director, so that the aesthetic message reaches the observer. An experience that was vital for me, then following other paths more in keeping with my personality and my way of being.
