PITTI UOMO 95: the highlights of an edition full of eventsand anniversaries

In less than a month, men’s fashion will move to Florence, which will host, as usual, Pitti Uomo 95 from 8 to 11 January 2019. An international point of reference for menswear and lifestyle, the Pitti trade show will bring more than a thousand Italian and foreign brands to the Fortezza, covering 60.000 square meters. There also will be new expositive layouts: projects that reflect the contemporary essence of an historic company born in 50’s, that has always promoted fashion and design since the very first catwalks featured at the Sala Bianca of Pitti Palace in the Tuscan town.

With every edition, Pitti Immagine has been able to evolve in order to define new fashion standards, creating its own modern format thanks to the new exhibition layouts that involve the visitors directly.

The editing of the spaces and of the thematic pavilions is becoming more and more accurate and in the next menswear edition, will focus on the development of a new fashion concept – which combines athleisure and luxury street style – and on emerging projects created by the best creative minds worldwide. The classic style, Pitti Uomo’s beating heart, will be represented by a multitude of companies with a tailor-made approach that, the next year, will be influenced by the modernity of sportswear.

The theme of the 2019’s edition is The Pitti Box: a tribute to the common theme of all the Pitti Uomo fairs, that is to say the Surprise Boxes, true havens of fashion and lifestyle trends ready to be discovered. The Main Forecourt of the Fortezza da Basso will become an arena dedicated to sharing ideas, food and relax, whereas one of the pavilions will be dedicated to video-art: a new set design curated by Sergio Colantuoni.

Pitti Uomo 95 will also be the perfect time to celebrate a number of anniversaries, including Barbour, which celebrates the 125thbirthday of the iconic waxed jacket; Diadora, which pays homage to its 70thanniversary through It Plays Something Else, a contemporary art exhibition that explores speed and sports; and Moon Boot, which celebrates its 50thanniversary with an event at the Stazione Leopolda and an independent space in the Fortezza.

The Italian company Slam Jam celebrates 30 years of collaboration with some American urban brands in a series of events-installations and exhibits in Marino Marini’s museum. In the Sala Ottagonale, instead, we can find Woolrich’s installation event, focusing on cold and performance, which introduces the new aesthetic vision of the brand.

Among the special events of the Pitti Uomo’s next edition:

Gucci will present the new exhibition set-up of the Period Room spaces in the Gucci Garden, housed in the historic Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence’s Piazza della Signoria, which replaces the tribute to Björk inaugurated last June. In addition, there are new wall paintings in the areas linking the various floors, which can engage visitors and create a dialogue with the windows that open onto Piazza della Signoria. The Gucci Garden boutique will also feature a selection of clothing and other items featuring images created by an artist who is working with the brand for the first time.
