Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama Collaboration, here comes the second drop

Ambassador for the campaign is Justin Timberlake.

After their first collaboration in 2012, Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama signed a second collection loaded with both of their expressive features. The Maison had already interpreted Kusama’s iconic “Dots” signature on some of its most classic accessories and garments. Now, it returns with another interpretation of the Japanese contemporary artist’s joyful and vibrant motifs.

The launch covers a selection of men’s and women’s garments. This second collection, “Creating Infinity“, continues to focus on the vibrant colors that are often echoed in Kusama’s brightly painted graphics. The ready-to-wear collection sees Kusama’s influence on more relaxed silhouettes, including a denim, beach-ready ensemble. Staying true to the house motifs left behind by Virgil Abloh, the letterman varsity blouson features embroidered patches referencing Kusama’s Colorful Faces. Nylon jackets and shorts get the collection ready for the upcoming warmer seasons.

This time, the collection highlights more of Kusama’s symbolic artwork, such as the Nihonga-style Pumpkin, Colorful Faces, Flowers, and Infinite Dots. These designs are also particularly evident in the iconic Capucines and Monogram accessories.

Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama’s second drop was preceded by the release of images of Justin Timberlake starring his first Louis Vuitton campaign. It was signed by world-renowned artist photographer Steven Meisel, who portrays the singer-songwriter, dancer and record producer with images of Kusama tattooed on his arm.

For Meisel, this is a continuation of what is a long-standing synergy. In fact, the photographer has shot many of the Maison’s first launches and has immortalized some of the most iconic supermodels chosen by Louis Vuitton for its products. Let’s not forget the collaborations with celebrities such as Madonna, who has starred in several of Meisel’s own campaigns.

The other faces of the collection

The other faces of the campaign for the collection featuring Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama are Léa Seydoux and Cate Blanchett. The latter, in particular, appears in luminous images where her skin becomes a real canvas. The actress, in fact, displays hippy-style flowers on her body, applied with body-painting techniques. Pat McGrath signed the work, thus evoking spring and rebirth.
