A commitment to the environment and the well-being of employees.
Il Borro, an organic farm and winery owned by the Ferruccio Ferragamo family since 1993, known for its authentic medieval village transformed into a prestigious “albergo diffuso” (widespread hotel), is proud to announce the launch of a new corporate welfare project focused on sustainable energy production, titled “IL BORRO Green Energy & Corporate Welfare.”
This project represents a further step in Il Borro’s commitment to environmental, economic, and social sustainability, reaffirming its role as a pioneer in luxury hospitality and organic farming.

The initiative was developed within the framework of the Sustainability Table of Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa, in response to the growing interest of participating companies in both social and environmental issues. Implemented with the support of the Florence-based company Tera Energy, the project aims to improve the quality of life for employees and their families through innovative corporate welfare solutions. The goal is to create a more inclusive work environment, attentive to social needs while promoting energy efficiency.
“The innovative corporate welfare solution offered by this project,” said Maurizio Bigazzi, President of Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa, “not only highlights the result-driven work the Table is advancing but also demonstrates how environmental sustainability and employee well-being are closely connected. The fact that two of our companies are the first to experiment with this welfare project motivates us to work even more determinedly in this direction.”
Core of the project
The project allows for the allocation of surplus 100% renewable electricity, generated by the company’s photovoltaic systems, to employees. This energy, together with Guarantees of Origin (GO), will enable participating workers to sign green energy supply contracts on favorable terms.
In the first year, the pilot project will be dedicated to a group of agricultural sector employees at Il Borro, who will receive up to €300 annually in energy cost contributions to help reduce their bills. The project will be gradually expanded in the following years, with the aim of involving all company employees and extending the benefits through different initiatives.

Roberto Olivieri, President of Tera Società Benefit said: “We are excited to collaborate with Il Borro on this innovative project, which is a concrete example of how energy sustainability can seamlessly integrate with corporate welfare. As a technical partner, our goal is to provide solutions that not only reduce energy costs but also improve workers’ quality of life and reduce environmental impact. We strongly believe that this model can be replicated in other contexts, showing how the energy transition can be a driver for social and economic well-being.”
The project, strongly backed by Salvatore and Vittoria Ferragamo, children of Chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo, represents a new challenge for Il Borro in terms of corporate welfare and energy sustainability.
“Energy is a crucial resource in addressing many of today’s global challenges. Sustainable energy, in particular, offers the opportunity to create a more balanced relationship between society and the environment,” said Salvatore Ferragamo. “Il Borro has always recognized the key role of the private sector in achieving these goals, adopting initiatives in line with GOAL 7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With our photovoltaic systems, we generated 2.47 GWh of renewable energy in 2023 alone, powering several facilities with zero energy bills, equipped with solutions like geothermal energy, solar panels, and heat pumps.”

Vittoria Ferragamo, Head of Sustainability and the company’s representative at the Sustainability Table of Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa, added: “I am deeply proud of the progress Il Borro has made in sustainability. This project is particularly close to my heart, as it directly aims to enhance the well-being of our employees. Today, corporate welfare is a strategic tool for attracting and retaining talent, offering tangible benefits not only economically but also in terms of quality of life.”
With this project, Il Borro reaffirms its forward-looking vision, demonstrating that sustainability is not just a corporate philosophy but a reality that touches every aspect of working life.
