Castello di Velona reopens its doors for a new season of excellence and bien vivre

Joining just a few short months ago, Castello di Velona is the only Maison Dom Pérignon in Tuscany. The exclusive resort offers guests a truly unique experience by pairing modernity and tradition, luxury and simplicity with the genuine warmth of Italian hospitality. Situated in the heart of Val d’Orcia, Castello di Velona Resort – Thermal Spa & Winery is starting the 2018 season with a glistening reputation.  A medieval castle protected by UNESCO, Castello di Velona has today been transformed into a treasure of world-class hospitality, defined by spaces filled with refined furnishings made in Italy. Careful attention to detail has been paid to the details both inside and out: from the century-old cloister now designated an “open-air sitting room” covered with a glass ceiling and the terraces, to the two thermal pools boasting beautiful panoramic views.

The thermal waters are a key feature of Castello di Velona. The volcanic water bubbling up at nearby Monte Amiata at 85°C, the warmest in Tuscany, inspired the idea of creating a new space entirely dedicated to wellness. The 1500m2 OliSpa boasts pools, treatment rooms and a spa bedecked in Tavertine marble, a traditional Tuscan material, imbuing the space with a feel of luxury. Every corner of OliSpa has been designed to offer an immersive experience for the senses, enhanced by expert therapists who will help guests select the most appropriate treatment from the large collection available.

The vines and olive groves surrounding the castle are a blaze of the colours characterising the Tuscan landscape, carrying aromatic scents on the light breeze. In this setting, the pursuit of excellence in wine and gastronomy is a given. Feeding the mind and the body, the castle boasts two restaurants: the rustic Il Brunello located in the historic wing and the modern Settimo Senso in the new wing. Immersed in the silence and romanticism of these settings, diners will treat their senses as they sample the fine wines and olive oils produced by the castle’s very own agricultural company, as well as seasonal and authentic specialities from Tuscan and Italian cuisine.  Since 2018, Settimo Senso restaurant has been part of Maison Dom Pérignon, the only restaurant in Tuscany and one of just a handful of Italian premises allowed to serve the very best champagne – Dom Pérignon – to its diners. From pre-dinner drinks as the sun sets over the Val d’Orcia and thermal waters that reawaken the senses to tastings of Brunello di Montalcino wine produced at the castle and the discovery of a truly unique landscape, Castello di Velona won’t fail to deliver a luxury experience that pulls at the heart strings.
