Chanel strengthens its supply chain in leather with the purchase of another Italian tannery. After Samanta last year, specializing in printed and embossed leathers, this time the French luxury firm has set its sights on Conceria Gaiera Giovanni, its supplier of smooth and elastic leathers for more than ten years.
The group confirmed that it had “created a union” with the Italian company, without providing details on the amount of the transaction.
This decision was motivated by converging interests: for Gaiera the need to rely on a solid partner, which guarantees long-term visibility to the company, and for Chanel the desire to protect, guarantee and support an essential supply chain for its business and that of luxury as a whole

The Gaiera Giovanni Tannery was born in 1946 and settled in Robecchetto con Induno, not far from Milan. The company specializes in the transformation and treatment of kid, lamb and calf skins. He has been working for fashion houses since the 1990s.
