Our story of sustainable luxury has Biella as its point of arrival but the starting point is much further away: Sidney.
It’s called Congi Station and it’s a simple family-run farm: this is a real paradise for sheep, loved and pampered in every aspect.
These animals can enjoy exclusive treatments: water pools to avoid drought, special paddocks to alternate the sheep grazing and always provide them with fresh grass and no fatigue.
The treatment of these flocks makes each sheep certified mulesing free, a shearing method that does not harm the animals in any way.
All these attentions make the wool of these sheep of the highest quality.
Once again, sustainability, the real one, concretely affects the quality of the products.
Sustainable wool and luxury from the “slow factory”
Congi Station, together with other sustainable farms, Glen Lyon and Lake Ohaum in New Zealand, are part of the network of suppliers of a wool mill of excellence: that of Botto Giuseppe.
The Biella wool mill is known as the “slow factory”.
A real new industrial style that has as its cornerstones the fight against industrial standardization and low-cost series production, without any quality.
Anyone can freely visit the farms involved in the project.
Not just wool
In the production of very high quality yarns, another very widespread and not very respectful of animals practice refers to silk.
Usually the worms are brutally killed by immersing them in boiling water in order to obtain the whole cocoons.
Once again, the Botto wool mill makes sustainable luxury a flag: their silk comes from a district of Bangalore where to get the cocoons intact they simply expect the worms to turn into butterflies and leave them spontaneously.
