Giovanni Gilardi and the first fabric with 24kt gold yarn

Giovanni Gilardi

Giovanni Gilardi was born 26 September 1981 in Varallo Sesia. The first of four brothers, growing up in the heart of the Biella countryside, he immediately started to show strong creativity fuelled by an attraction to everything beautiful and colourful. He has always loved combining clothes of all shapes and colours, demonstrating a strong leaning toward the fashion sector.

At a young age, he began his professional career at a tailor’s shop in Verona and subsequently became Commercial Director, responsible for company development and communication. Then, with his friend Edoardo Piana and wool mill Fratelli Tallia Delfino, he created the first fabric with 24 carat gold yarn, managing the launch and development with an event held in collaboration with the famous Ferrari brand. His clothing know-how, from weaving to tailoring, became a point of reference for operators in the sector who came to him to relaunch or promote their own brands. Giovanni started to feel restricted by national borders and took on a new professional challenge, as a representative in Russia for the Antonio Meneghetti brand and their stores in Moscow and St Petersburg. He looked after the men’s and women’s prèt a porter collection as well as haute couture.

Today he is back in Italy, strengthened by his experience in the world of international luxury and, with Piana Clerico 1582, he has decided to develop the first 24 carat gold tailored jacket. The new year 2018 will also see the launch of a new international project: producing leather jackets personalised with a tattooing technique which he has patented, in collaboration with artists and designers, which will be presented at an exclusive event at the end of January.
