+GUSTO AL DESIGN: where Design meets Food

Twenty young designers will reveal their creative talent by exhibiting design projects for the food & beverage world at five well-known culinary venues in Milan  ̶  the perfect context for these creations to state their value, and for design to deepen its bond with food

Twenty young designers will reveal their creative talent by exhibiting design projects for the food & beverage world at five well-known culinary venues in Milan  ̶  the perfect context for these creations to state their value, and for design to deepen its bond with food.

Happening in different locations all over the city, +GUSTO AL DESIGN will take place during the Milan Design Week, when the city into the world design capital. The event offers young design talents a remarkable exhibiting space where they can display their ideas, creative skills and potential while networking with businesses, designers, architects, the press and prospective buyers.

+GUSTO AL DESIGN will start off on April 9 at Santeria, standing out in Milan for the social and cultural activities it promotes. Located in viale Toscana 31, the bistrot will host the inaugural collective exhibition featuring the young designers’ projects to the sounds of a live concert by James Holden & the Animal Spirits.

The exhibition will run throughout the whole Milan Design Week, and the food & beverage design projects will be presented in various prestigious restaurants sponsoring the event. With them welcoming the young designers at their venues, taste is taking to the stage in Milan’s most important districts.

The project calls to action young designer under 35 years who are able to think out of the box to come up with original ideas. After launching a “call for designers” that closed on March 10, the Technical Committee ̶made up of by eminent scholars, designers and businessmen  ̶ proceeded to select the 20 participants to the project:

BIAGIO CISOTTI            Architect, Art Director at PLANK and Professor at I.S.I.A., Florence
PATRIZIO CIONFOLI       Director of Design and Interaction at Studio Volpi, Milan
DAVIDE CUMINI             Architect, partner IARCHITECTS, Milan
MANOLA DEL TESTA       Art Director at RCR Cristalleria Italiana, Colle Val d’Elsa (Siena)
ALBERTO MARIA PRINA   Designer, Artist and Professor at the Brera Academy, Milan
ALESSIO SARRI              Master Ceramist, Sesto Fiorentino (Florence).

As the technical partner of the event, quality glass manufacturer RCR Cristalleria Italiana contributed to a selection of glasses from the Prestige collection, decorated by grinding by seven designers of repute: BIAGIO CISOTTI, MANOLA DEL TESTA, GUM DESIGN, GIULIO IACHETTI, MARTINELLI VENEZIA, FRANCO RAGGI, PAOLO ULIAN. These glasses will be added to the RCR catalog, and exclusively showcased at Santeria alongside the other projects throughout Fuorisalone.

Instagram is designers’ social network of choice, as it enables them to express themselves through what they know and use best ̶  ideas and pictures. It is also a favorite of Fuorisalone visitors, who love the chance to store the most interesting objects they spot in a memory, rather than carrying around unnecessary piles of paper. Every object on display will bear a QR code leading to the catalog.

April 2 – Preview DopoSalone2019

Location: WJC

Organized by publishing group GMR Gruppo Editoriale, this preview will introduce selected food & beverage design works created by the young participants.

April 9 – Opening night Fuorisalone

Location: Santeria, viale Toscana 31

h 18.30: Inauguration of the collective exhibition at the bistrot in viale Toscana 31.

h 19.15: Cocktails and talk event between the design universe and the food & beverage world.

h 21.30: Live concert by famous American artist James Holden & The Animal Spirits, open to the public.

April 9 to 14 – Exhibitions Fuorisalone

Location: Santeria viale Toscana 31

The young designers’ selected works will be showcased in a collective exhibition inside Santeria’s “Atelier” hall. The exhibition will also include some glasses created in collaboration with manufacturer RCR Cristalleria Italiana as a technical partner, and decorated by grinding by seven renowned designers: BIAGIO CISOTTI, MANOLA DEL TESTA, GUM DESIGN, GIULIO IACHETTI, MARTINELLI VENEZIA, FRANCO RAGGI, PAOLO ULIAN.

9-14 aprile – Exhibitions Fuorisalone

Location: “Vetrine del Gusto” (partner restaurants)

A copy of the projects will be displayed at the five restaurants collaborating to the event:

RATANA’, Isola Design District  ̶  one of the youngest district in the city

DA I GEMELLI, Brera Design District   ̶  among the most attractive and visited districts in Milan

ENRICO BARTOLINI MUDEC, Tortona district   ̶   the historic area where FuoriSalone stemmed from

SAVINI, located at the very heart of Milano inside the iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

PINCH -SPIRIT & KITCHEN, Navigli   ̶   Milan’s timeless nightlife hub.

14 aprile – Finissage Last Fuorisalone event

Location: Ostello Bello

This is the closing event that will take place at the end of Fuorisalone.

Sponsored by the Municipality of Milan, +GUSTO AL DESIGN will be included in the official guide to Fuori Salone 2019.
