Louis Vuitton chooses Isola Bella for the 2024 cruise

The Borromean island will host the brand’s fashion show on May 24th.

The next cruise collection by Louis Vuitton, the flagship maison of the Lvmh group, which alone exceeded the record turnover of 20 billion euros in 2022, will show on May 24 on Isola Bella, on Lake Maggiore.

According to what reported by the brand, it is the first time that a fashion show has been hosted inside the palace and gardens of the Borromean island, owned by the Borromeo family.

“The spirit of travel and the discovery of extraordinary places, architectural and artistic masterpieces are aspects strongly linked to Louis Vuitton. Perpetuating the tradition of the maison, the cruise fashion show will take place on Isola Bella, a treasure trove of Baroque art suspended over the water. One of the admirable examples of the Italian Baroque, Isola Bella, Palazzo Borromeo and its gardens rise like a vessel on the waters of Lake Maggiore”.

The collection will be available in all brand stores worldwide from November 2023.

It is not the first time that one of the maisons headed by the transalpine group has chosen Italy and its historic places as a destination to bring its creations onto the catwalk. In July 2020 it was Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director for Dior womenswear, who stopped off in Lecce (Puglia) with the brand’s cruise 2021 collection, to pay homage to the region and its ancient traditions.

Among the great French luxury brands, it was Chanel who chose Rome in 2015 for its pre-fall 2016 collection. Under the guidance of Karl Lagerfeld, the fashion house transformed the Cinecittà studio where Fellini filmed ‘La Dolce Vita’ into a perfect parisian scenery.

More recently, in June last year, Chanel with the replica of the Métiers d’Art 2021-22 fashion show landed in Florence, inside the Stazione Leopolda. For that occasion, the Florentine destination had been the backdrop for the collection that Virginie Viard, creative director of the maison, had presented for the first time in December in Paris.

Over the years, Vuitton’s cruises have toured the world: the shows have taken place in locations such as John Lautner’s Bob & Dolores Hope Estate in Palm Springs, Oscar Niemeyer’s Contemporary Art Museum in Niterói, I.M.Pei’s Miho Museum near Kyoto and the Salk Institute in California.
