The Pantone color of 2022 is called “Very Peri” and is dedicated to courage and restart.
It is the number ’17 -3938 ‘and as always it will begin to populate the fashion shop, the design show rooms and the furniture stores … and soon each of us will find it in our closet.
Very Peri is entrusted with the task of inspiring energy and creativity in these difficult times and we are careful not to call it lilac or just periwinkle blue.
The nuance chosen to interpret the new year shows a lively and joyful attitude, encourages creativity and expresses imagination and, for the first time, it is a neo color.
The analysts, in fact, have not indicated a tone already known, but have chosen to start from scratch.
A dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying purplish red undertone blends the fidelity and consistency of blue with the energy and excitement of red
says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, explaining the reason for the choice:
thanks to a new color, we reflect the innovation and global transformation taking place. Society continues to recognize color as a fundamental form of communication and expression and the complexity of this new shade of blue, infused with red-violet, highlights the possibilities that open up before us.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute explains:
We need to interpret the spirit of the time and transform it into color. For example, in the moment of transformation we are experiencing, the procedure was this: the blue family was the starting point because it is a well-known color, which corresponds to familiarity and comfort.
Blue includes the ‘safety’ factor and the appreciation that many people feel for this shade. However, it was also necessary to convey a sense of freshness, vitality, a push towards the future, which also refers to the digitized world and here the purple-red undertone came into play.
The starting color was, more precisely, the ‘periwinkle blue’ which refers to the flower of the same name, containing shades of light blue-violet tending to gray. Cleared in the 70s for industrial use among the official body colors of some Alfa Romeo models, for chromotherapy it is the anti-anxiety and anti-stress color par excellence, together with blue and turquoise.
But it was not enough to convey tranquility, it was necessary to create a new color to reflect the innovation and global transformation taking place
because the world needs a lively and joyful attitude again
