Takeo Yamazaki, the stellar chef who blends east and west

One of Takéo Yamazaki’s dreams as a young man was to buy a motorcycle. It was his need to earn enough money for this coveted purchase that led him into his profession as a chef. He began working as a cook in a small city on the outskirts of Tokyo, but his passion for cooking only grew and grew. Like a fairytale packed with dramatic twists and turns and a radiantly happy ending, the timid and self-effacing student Takéo won a scholarship that took him to Lyon, in France, and as he progressed through a string of successes, trips from East to West, and an in-depth study of two cultures, the Japanese future chef prepared to become a star of the highest order. Today, Takéo Yamazaki is head chef at “Yoshi”, the first Japanese restaurant opened by his mentor, Joël Robuchon, in the heart of Monte Carlo in the famous Hôtel Métropole. A master of measure and expert at blending the flavors and aromas of his country with those of Europe, Takéo Yamazaki has elevated “Yoshi” to the best Japanese restaurant in Monaco, and the only one with a Michelin star.
