The Fendi Fall 2019 RTW Collection celebrates Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic style

A nostalgic and creative show, made even more unique by the distinctive feeling that Karl Lagerfeld was a one-in-a-million genius: that’s our impression of Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection, the last one designed by the Kaiser, who was the creative director of the Italian fashion house’s womenswear line for the past 53 years

A nostalgic and creative show, made even more unique by the distinctive feeling that Karl Lagerfeld was a one-in-a-million genius: that’s our impression of Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection, the last one designed by the Kaiser, who was the creative director of the Italian fashion house’s womenswear line for the past 53 years.

Lagerfeld, an extravagant and irreverent fashion storyteller and a keen observer of reality, was a true innovator when it came to aesthetics, exploring many different art forms – photography, illustration, publishing – other than just fashion, and condensing his experiences into a fully realized vision.

His visions have also turned into grandiose projects and shows with an extraordinary ability to overwhelm, move, provoke and entertain every spectator.

Lagerfeld’s iconic narrative style, the leitmotiv of his every creation, is also clearly visible in Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2019-20 collection, which also features a video of the German designer drawing a fashion sketch.

Every piece reveals Lagerfeld’s trademark expressive touches, from the double-F monograms to the high, pointy shirt collars, charming bows – strongly wanted by the Kaiser himself – and embellished furs.

The collection is characterized by a palette of neutral colors that go from light ivory tones to rich cognac and cocoa shades, with pops of orange, yellow and blue.

The term that best describes the tailoring of this line is probably effortless: the silhouettes are elegantly simple and linear, as we saw in the skirts with flowing asymmetrical pleats, the chemisier dresses, the wide trousers and the double-breasted jackets with white piping.

The use of mesh is inspired by the world of athleisure, following the sporty and urban chic attitude of the latest Fendi collections.
