Luxury and design meet under the banner of Zen sustainability

Tailoring and exclusivity, these are the watchwords that characterize every project by architect Maurizio Morazzoni and engineer Gaia Morazzoni.

The Mariani Design and More studio has recently signed another important project in which luxury and sustainability meet.

Let’s start with the presentations: tell us more about the Mariani Design and More studio

We have reached the fourth generation of the studio – says the architect. Morazzoni – we started in 1928 with a small carpentry and over time we have chosen to carry on the values of quality and craftsmanship of the origins.

The evolution of the studio – explains Ing. Gaia Morazzoni – has led us to orient ourselves more and more on design without forgetting where we come from: we have in fact created Mariani Collection, a line of custom-made furniture.

How can your studio be defined as sustainable?

The projects that distinguish us have always been evaluated on the basis of sustainability criteria. From the earliest stages of each project – Maurizio Morazzoni specifies – we interpret the development of environments with a philosophy of great enhancement of greenery and continuity between internal and external spaces.

As for the materials – continues Gaia Morazzoni – we always orient ourselves on wood, crystal and marble. Each piece of furniture proposed never includes any type of plastic part and the finishes of our woods are free of any chemical component. In fact, we only use wax or oil.

The Zen Villa

We had the great opportunity of being able to carry out a very particular project – explain Gaia and Maurizio – that would combine our sustainability criteria with a very particular concept of well-being that comes from afar.

In fact, a client in Northern Italy wanted a home that could combine the luxury of total living comfort with a philosophy of seeking beauty in the essential.

We have thus created a real luxury Zen villa

The roof – like all outdoor spaces – is clad in teak wood with the insertion of strips that dissect it, giving the impression of a suspended space with respect to the attachment of the masonry.

The entrance gates of the villa are made of tempered crystal, the doors reproduce the initials of the owners intertwined together in an evocative way.

Crystal – as architect Morazzoni explains – is one of the main materials used in our projects precisely to give substance to the beauty of transparency and to create continuity between inside and outside. This is also the material for the staircase leading from the tavern to the noble area. Once again here is the beauty of the essential, typical of the Zen wellness philosophy.

The entrance is made of Lodrino marble while the heating and cooling system is hidden by the lowering made in the ceilings: everything is aerial, there are no visible radiators or radiant panels and the air conditioning of the environment is obtained using a geothermal system; here is another meeting point between luxury and sustainability.

Carpets, curtains and other textile elements were made exclusively for this client on hand looms, the same for the linen, bathrobes and other textile accessories, both for the master area and for the guest rooms.

In the design of this villa – explains Eng. Morazzoni – great attention was paid to the creation of the green.

The Zen garden extends within the park of the villa, where centuries-old trees have been inserted in the midst of rich tall vegetation to create original and powerful green spaces

A journalist ever since, I love turning the world's events into sentences and lines that can take readers "inside the news", leading them to explore the current happenings with me through my articles. My professional background has allowed me to gain insights into the encounter of two apparently incompatible worlds: luxury and sustainability. Guiding businesses in this direction as a communication manager and event organizer has made me aware that, now more than ever, it is by respecting ourselves and our planet's resources that we should start to create real value.
