Statement Pieces for Inspired Contemporary Living from Satu Heikkila Art

An exceptional Finish artist has entered into the world of original art with her striking range of distinctive pieces. Satu Heikkila works primarily with the mediums of alcohol inks and resin, creating fabulous statement pieces that are mounted on wood panels of various sizes. Based in Elimaki, Finland, Satu Heikkila takes her inspiration from the brilliant colours of her native country, known as the land of a thousand lakes. She also draws from the strong influences of her own memories and dreams.

She admits to having always used art to express herself since her childhood and seriously started painting when she was introduced to that artistic world by a local artist. Since then she has not stopped putting her heart and soul into the design of the striking, contemporary pieces.

Satu Heikkila

Satu Heikkila prides herself on studying her art through practical experience and taking time to contemplate and learn the intricacies of her craft along the way. She first discovered her love for liquid art in 2019, and began exploring these distinctive alcohol inks using airbrushing techniques, straws and sometimes her own breath to capture the life and movement of the inks. The result is a series of bold and dramatic floral works in vibrant colours that also have an ethereal dreamlike quality, a clever combination of reality and the intangible to consider and absorb.

After experimenting with resin in 2020, she quickly decided this would become the main focus and her preferred medium to work with. The flow of the resin is manipulated with the help of needles, heat guns, propane torches and other artistic tools, resulting in many layers of chemical reactions all taking place at their own speed. The finished product is an incredible multi-faceted and fascinating piece that will make a statement in any home.

Satu Heikkila’s abstract art interprets emotion and creates an interactive dynamic between audience and artist with the skilfully deconstructed images that are open to multi-faceted interpretation. Each piece takes two to three weeks to complete with the artist working on either canvas or wood board, depending on the finished effect that she is trying to create.

Her works have been exhibited in Finland as well as in Italy and the US and her paintings can be found in private collections across Europe and America. She also has an easily-accessible website where the contents of her latest portfolio are stylishly displayed.
