Fair winds for the Italian nautical sector as it sets sail to this fall’s trade shows and events

Since 2015, the sector has reported remarkable growth rates reaching 20%, thanks to the recovery of the national market and the driving exports, but mostly to the luxury boat segment, where Italy holds 45% of the market.

According to data by the 2019 Global Order Book, Italian boatyards alone account for a share exceeding 20% of global orders. The three flagships of Italy’s national fleet, namely giants Sanlorenzo, Ferretti and Benetti-Azimut, have a strong international vocation and two of them –̶Sanlorenzo and Ferretti –̶would be getting ready to “dock” at Piazza Affari. An opportunity that Benetti-Azimut cannot benefit from yet: with a production value equal to 900 million Euros, the brand has recently announced the allocation of 115 millions to reinforce its production capacity and develop new products in the next three fiscal years.

For their parts, the sector events have already set off: last week, boat shows opened in Cannes and Southampton, with the Genoa Boat Show and the Monaco Yatch Show following suit on September 19 and September 25 respectively, while the Barcelona and Fort Lauderdale shows are coming in October.

The Genoa show has already proved successful: from last year’s edition, online sales oftickets to visit the 59th edition of the Genoa Boat Show have increased by 136% and they are constantly rising on the event’s eve. The show will welcome 986 exhibitors for over 1,000 boats and will involve the whole city in 98 events.
