On Friday 4 March 2022, on the 40th anniversary of its foundation, AIVE (Italian Association of Vintage Sails) will present in Rome the official calendar of vintage sails regattas for the current year.

The conference will take place starting at 5 pm at the Hotel Mediterraneo in Rome, a historic building from 1939 located in front of Termini Station. Between April and October, historic boats will be able to participate in 15 events distributed between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic Seas. On the occasion of the conference, the book “Disappeared and Unforgettable” and the story of the recovery of Rondetto, the hull with which the navigator Erik Pascoli crossed the Atlantic alone in 1969, will be presented.

PRESENTATION OF THE CALENDAR VELE VINTAGE 2022

Thanks to the easing of the restrictions caused by the pandemic, this year AIVE, the Italian Vintage Sails Association (www.aive-yachts.org), can return to organize a “face-to-face” meeting to announce the official calendar of scheduled regattas during 2022.

The appointment is set for Friday 4 March in Rome, starting at 5 pm, at the Hotel Bettoja Mediterraneo in Via Cavour 15, a three-minute walk from the Roma Termini railway station. It will also be an opportunity to celebrate the first 40 years of AIVE, an association founded in Milan in 1982 recognized by the FIV (Italian Federation of Vintage Sails).

Today the association has over 100 members (owners and non-owners) and has a library consisting of 500 books and 1500 yacht files. The event will be attended by personalities from the sailing world, owners and representatives of the Navy, the largest shipowner of vintage boats in Italy and perhaps in the world, always present at vintage sail rallies with their magnificent boats.

DINNER AND ACCOMMODATION WITH AGREEMENT

AIVE – Italian Association of Vintage Sails

The Italian Vintage Sails Association was established in 1982 with the aim of preserving the historical, artistic and technical heritage made up of vintage yachts, launched before 1950, and classic yachts, launched until 1975.

The AIVE is based in Genoa at the Italian Yacht Club, it is a class association recognized by the FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) for vintage and classic sailing yachts.

In 40 years of activity, AIVE has organized and sponsored dozens of sailing regattas, produced publications on yachting and promoted meetings aimed at spreading the culture of vintage boats.

A library consisting of more than 500 volumes now collects the history of sailing and the construction plans of over 1500 listed yachts.

The AIVE is part of the C.I.M., the International Mediterranean Committee for Classic Yachting founded in 1926, a body that issues the regulations relating to vintage boat regattas.

The Association has the following purposes:

To be the reference point for those who in Italy and abroad maintain boats built in wood or metal in the years prior to 1975
Promote and / or organize rallies and regattas for vintage and classic boats
Research and conservation of nautical traditions, of their history and of the construction technique of pleasure and racing boats in wood or metal
The creation of a library that collects the construction plans and sail plans of all the boats surveyed, news relating to their history, specialized publications with reference to the designers and shipyards of the era
The promotion of cultural and teaching activities related to maintenance, shipbuilding, rigging and navigation can be of support to shipowners and lovers of these
The creation of publications whose main purpose is to remember and pass on historical facts and information relating to classic yachting
