The regatta, reserved at the invitation of the Venice Yacht Club for maxi yachts only, will take place on Saturday 15 October

Today, at the Venice Boat Show near the Enrico Dandolo submarine in the Arsenale, the Venice Hospitality Challenge 2022 was presented. The regatta, reserved at the invitation of the Venice Yacht Club for maxi yachts only, will take place on Saturday 15 October with departure scheduled for approximately 1.30 pm. As usual, it will be possible to watch the entire course of the regatta which will be held in front of the Rive.

The sailing competition, which has always reached its ninth edition with the support and participation of the high Venetian hôtellerie, will see internationally renowned skippers compete for the coveted “Doge’s hat” which will be created for the occasion by the historic Murano glass factory CAM. Also confirmed this year the participation of the most important Venetian 5-star luxury hotels that believe in this event: Hôtel Excelsior, JW Mariott, Ca ‘di Dio VRetreats, Londra Palace, Hôtel Danieli, Bauer Palazzo, St. Regis, Gritti, SINA Centurion Palace, Palazzina Grassi, Ca ‘Sagredo Hotel, Hôtel Cipriani, Hilton Molino Stucky as well as Raffaele Alajmo, the pride of Italian restaurants around the world.

Last year Maxi Jena – Sina Centurion Palace led by Slovenian skipper Milos Radonjic took the victory. In second place, also in Class 1, Way of Life – The Gritti Palace skipper Gasper Vincec and in third place Arca SGR – Ca ‘Sagredo with Furio Benussi at the helm.

I am particularly happy because this event, born in 2014, from an idea of mine – that is to combine the maritime tradition of the city and Venetian hospitality of excellence, has grown rapidly over time

declared Mirko Sguario, President of the Yacht Club Venezia

also and above all thanks to the collaboration of the Boat Show, the Municipal Administration, the Port System Authority and the Navy, confirming itself as a unique regatta in the world not only for the spectacularity but also for the technical difficulties: with boats of this size the crews face tight spaces e. If we then consider that compared to the first edition the boats have more than doubled, now it is a real skill challenge between champions! Among the novelties of this year there is the start of a collaboration with the Port System Authority in order to evaluate the possibility of a mooring at the Zattere which would allow a wider public to admire the entire fleet up close. of the maxi yachts participating in the event

Fabrizio D’Oria, operational director of Vela S.p.A., commented:

The synergy between the Venice Hospitality Challenge and the Boat Show makes these events the perfect ambassadors of sailing and boating in Venice in Italy

The Venice Hospitality Challenge is an event that has the merit of combining the architectural and monumental beauty of Venice, but at the same time also the excellence of hospitality, aimed at quality tourism

said Ermelinda Damiano, President of the City Council, also recalling how she has been close to this important event for seven years.

In harmony with sustainability, the central theme of this year’s Salone, the Venice Hospitality Challenge has for two years adhered to a specific environmental commitment, providing the crews with garments made by Mureadritta obtained from the recycling of plastic bottles: a project perfectly in line with what the Municipal Administration is setting itself for Venice which by its natural vocation must be an example of eco-sustainability.
