Villa Petriolo Resort

Villa Petriolo Resort

The first sustainable and certified high-end agri-resort is located in Tuscany.

Villa Petriolo is a 15th-century agri-resort rising up from the hills of one of Tuscany’s most famous areas, just a few kilometers away from Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo Da Vinci. It celebrates all that is traditionally Tuscan with a high-end formula, which isn’t, however, its only distinctive feature. In fact, the entire estate is fully sustainable: from the pool to the Michelin Green Star restaurant.

Guests are encouraged to explore the 15-kilometer network of trails that crisscross the plastic-free property on foot, horseback, by electric bicycle or electric car (recharged using the Villa’s solar panels). In addition, you can be directly involved in the hotel-supporting project promoted by Save the Planet to create a reforestation area. Finally, staying at the Villa Petriolo estate allows one to immerse oneself in its agricultural roots through a healthy selection of experiences based on nature and its interactions.

Excellence that comes from afar

The GSTC certification, Global Sustainable Tourism Council, is as of 2018 the world’s top sustainability award. It was awarded by Vireo to Villa Petriolo as the first sustainable agritourism in the world. “A sustainable system,” says Daniele Nannetti CEO and Founder of Villa Petriolo, “must respect the three P’s: Planet, People and Profit, in a union that is renewed over time. In fact, the universal idea of sustainability can actually be seen as an adaptation of the Renaissance structures that we found here at Villa Petriolo and that already governed its systems back in the 1500s.”

For Villa Petriolo, this certification is the crowning achievement of the sustainable vocation of the project, which began only in 2018. It comes after other necessary compliance certifications, such as UNI ISO 14064 (organization carbon footprint manual); UNI ISO 21401 for sustainability management in hospitality facilities; and UNI ISO 14046 (organization water footprint manual). To crown the estate’s efforts, there is also the plaque of ‘Best Sustainable Place 2021’ awarded by Save the Planet.
