The legendary island of Zakynthos, also known as Zante, was the homeland of Italian poet Ugo Foscolo, who dedicated his most famous poem to it, and, as the myth goes, the birthplace of goddess Venus.
Symbol of the island is iconic Shipwreck Beach, one of the most popular of all Greek islands: a postcard landscape that, when visited in person, is even more beautiful and unexpectedly enchanting.
Today, with all sentimentality left behind, the island of Zakynthos seems to have developed two different personalities: the loud, fashionable one of the East and South coast, overwhelmed by mass tourism, and the mild, quiet one of the Western and central regions and promontories in the North and South, less trodden by tourists and perfect for those wishing for a slow-paced holiday.
Zakynthos still makes it possible to deeply connect with nature in the national park established on the island: every year, turtles keep heading back to its beaches to lay their eggs, offering astounded visitors the fascinating sight of hatching.
