Cartier and Kering united to design new sustainable jewels

It is called the Watch and Jewelery Initiative 2030 and is the name that the prestigious Cartier brand and the luxury jewelery icon Kering have given to their new initiative.

Starting a new collective journey towards a low-carbon future, which will lead the most prestigious luxury jewelery brands to revolutionize their production standards: this is the main purpose of the new partnership.

Watch & Jewelery Initiative 2030: Cartier and Kering for sustainable luxury

“Guided by the common belief that the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aspirations for a sustainable sector can only be achieved through collaborative initiatives” – reads the Kering website – “Cartier, delegated by Richemont, and Kering, in partnership with the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC), have joined together to expand and strengthen their action, launching the Watch & Jewelery Initiative 2030. ”

The objectives of the collaboration:

Cartier and Kering have signed a pact in the name of sustainability that aims to pursue three fundamental objectives:

  1. For the first time, the aim will be to bring together all the major luxury jewelery and watch brands to pursue new production objectives in the name of saving CO2 emissions;
  2. the commitments promoted by the Watch and Jewelery Initiative 2030 are at the very heart of the sustainable development goals defined by the United Nations, and the initiative itself contributes to Goal 17, “partnerships to achieve goals”.
  3. Climate objectives, respect for the planet’s resources and for the work of men and women involved in the extraction of precious stones as well as new production chains: these are the ways of partnership to respect the planet.
