Florence celebrates Andrea del Verrocchio

From March 9th to July 14th 2019 Palazzo Strozzi celebrates Andrea del Verrocchio, symbolic artist of the Renaissance in Florence, through a large exhibition that houses over 120 works including paintings, sculptures and drawings from the most important museums and collections in the world such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Musée du Louvre in Paris, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence

The exhibition, with a special section at the Bargello National Museum, collects together for the first time famous masterpieces by Verrocchio and capital works of the most famous artists of the second half of the fifteenth century related to his workshop, such as Domenico del Ghirlandaio, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino and Leonardo da Vinci, his most famous student, of which it will be possible to reconstruct the formation and exchange with the master through exceptional loans and unprecedented comparisons.

The exhibition, curated by two of the most important experts of the fifteenth century art, Francesco Caglioti and Andrea De Marchi, is one of the leading events of the 2019 celebrations in Leonard and is the first retrospective ever dedicated to Verrocchio, showing at the same time the beginnings of Leonardo da Vinci, offering a glimpse of the artistic production in Florence between 1460 and 1490, the era of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
