Grow: the new light installation by Daan Roosegaarde in the Netherlands

Light plays a fundamental role in Daan Roosegaarde’s work, his latest installation “Grow” is the clearest example of this.

A dream landscape, an expanse of red and blue lights that dance in a field of 20 thousand square meters.

A work of art that pays homage to agriculture but also an experiment inspired by advances in photobiology to promote plant growth and reduce the use of pesticides that clearly summarizes the goal of Daan Roosegaarde’s futuristic projects: to improve life on the planet.

The installation wants to be a tribute to the earth and to everything that is given to us every day, a bright and incredibly poetic picture.

We usually don’t notice these huge cultivated areas, yet the soil and the fruits of the earth nourish us every day and allow us to live

said the artist.

But as in all of Roosegaarde’s projects, also in Grow art merges with science, poetry with avant-garde technology.

The lights transform the field into a visual spectacle and improve plant growth and resilience.

Commitment and sustainability play a key role in all of Roosegaarde’s research.

Just think of Waterlicht, an installation of 2015 to raise awareness of the risk of sea level rise, or of Van Gogh Path (2014), the famous track in Brabant where it seems to ride in the framework of Van Gogh Starry Night.
