The French shoe designer teamed up with London’s Royal Opera House to create a new collection inspired by Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty ballet, on stage at the English theater.
The words “princess” and “shoes” might have always reminded us of Cinderella, but from now on, another famous, romantic fairytale will come to our mind: The Sleeping Beauty.
To celebrate the Royal Ballet’s Christmas edition of The Sleeping Beauty, composed by Tchaikovsky in the 1880s and running at the Royal Opera House until January 16, 2020, the French designer launched a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by choreographer Marius Petipa’s classical ballet.
All styles featured in the capsule have a PVC base, and add a Louboutin touch to the shapes and lines of traditional ballet shoes: the night-out Miragirl – coming in the Blush, Red and Gold versions – has stiletto heels and crystals on the toes, plus a charming chiffon bow at the ankle, while fairytale-inspired Sleeping Rose is decorated by a spiky rose.
With this new collection, Louboutin joins the Royal Opera House’s Pointe Shoe Appeal: for every purchase of a pair of Miragirl or Sleeping Rose shoes, a pair of ballet shoes will be donated to support dancers at the Royal Opera House. Louboutin’s new line will only be available for purchase at the designer’s boutique in Mount Street, London.
