Pietro Castellitto is preparing to make his debut work known at the 77th Venice Film Festival, making his directorial debut with I predatori, which he also wrote and performed, in Competition in Horizons.
His first work was expected in the cinema in the spring of 2020 and now (from 2 to 12 September 2020) with the Mostra del Cinema it will have the right showcase.
The predators, as we read in the official notes, tells of two families at opposite poles of society in a chaotic and perhaps even tired Rome. The synopsis released explains:
“It is early morning, the sea of Ostia is calm. A man knocks on a lady’s house: he will sell her a watch. It is always early in the morning when, a few days later, a young philosophy assistant is left out of the group chosen for the exhumation of Nietzsche’s body. Two wrongs suffered. Two apparently incompatible families: the Pavone and the Vismara. The former was bourgeois and intellectual, the latter proletarian and fascist. Opposing nuclei that share the same jungle, Rome. A trivial accident will cause those two poles to collide. And the madness of a 25-year-old boy will uncover the cards to reveal that everyone has a secret and no one is what they seem. And that we are all predators ”.
Pietro Castellitto, learning about the selection of his film at the Venice Film Festival, said:
I am deeply happy that my film is being presented in the Orizzonti section. The upheaval of the pandemic has destroyed many certainties, opening the doors to a new clash between cultures and world views, a fundamental premise for any artistic era. There is something of war in this Venetian dawn and being part of it is a source of pride. I thank Alberto Barbera and all the selectors for their trust. I hope to be up to it
