Jennifer Jane Martine’s soul, alias J.J., is not white nor black. It is a playful mix and match of printed, colorful fabrics.
It could not be otherwise, static monochrome styles are just not the right fit for her life: a collection of experiences from her childhood on Santa Monica beaches, her teenage years in a San Francisco that paved the way for her career in advertising, a stopover to New York, where she entered the fashion business with a job at Calvin Klein, and a final stop in Milan, where she ended up for love and started working for a renowned online fashion magazine.
Naturally eclectic, a trendsetter with a passion for fashion and vintage, J.J. turned her career as an acclaimed journalist into a professional adventure as a lifestyle designer, working both with apparel and homeware. This is how the “cool sciura”, as the New York Times labeled her, founded the La Double J brand (her name initials, preceded but the article “La”, as it is custom in Milan before female proper names): an ode to liveliness through retro patterns, vibrant colors and relaxed silhouettes, all rigorously made in Italy.
Jennifer Jane Martine was able to shape a clear, precise identity for her brand, a DNA so strongly defined by all-over prints inspired by vintage wallpapers and upholstery fabrics that it set her free from the chains of introducing new proposals every season.
She set up her Spring Summer 2020 show at the heart of Milan, in Citylife’s Garden of the Four Seasons. The designer’s modus operandi was to remove everything that did not work last season and focus on her most successful ideas instead.
Green light to pleats and fluid, floaty dresses, sequins, feathers and broderie anglaise, bearing prints as well.
New-in: shoes, created in collaboration with Fabrizio Vita – sandals and clogs embellished with feathers and precious details – and printed cushions.
A hotbed of creativity bursting with colors, décor influences and vintage details, leaving the impression that La Double J’s universe will certainly not stop expanding here.
