The 2019 NYFW highlights a new emerging trend: brands are thinking of different ways to promote their collections. For instance, some labels, such as Derek Lam and Zac Posen, have deserted the catwalks in favour of fancy photoshoots, while others still prefer the more traditional, star-studded fashion shows.

Among the latter, Christian Siriano, who invited his guests to discover his new Fall Winter 2019-2020 collection at the Top of the Rock, on the 64th floor of 30 Rock in the Rockefeller Center.

After a slightly too long wait, due to the combination of long queues and slow elevators, the visitors were catapulted right into the future, or better yet, into Futurism, the concept behind the new collection created by the designer who won the fourth edition of the Project Runway tv show.

And what location is better than Rockefeller Plaza, one of the tallest buildings in New York, to leave the present behind and be transported in a different era?

When he designed this fall collection, Siriano imagined that, even on a different planet, or in the future, women could have a “social calendar” and red carpet opportunities like the Oscars, which, last year, featured a whopping 17 of his creations.

Futurism aside, according to the press the most successful pieces in the collection are white pants, cropped tuxedo jackets, a silver pinstriped peplum top, flared trousers and a draped silver-striped lamé dress.

The more elaborated garments, like draped dresses, exaggerated tulle volumes, and crystal fringes, didn’t win over the journalists, who thought the techniques and materials not entirely satisfactory.

In our opinion, the true winner is the inclusivity message given by Siriano’s choice to close the show with a mesh gown with wide crystal bands worn by plus-size model Ashley Graham.

The designer was among the first to introduce the concept of size diversity on the catwalks, to support the idea of true beauty in the fashion world.
