Just a few years ago, streetwear was dominating the underground scenes, the preserve of a contemporary culture of outsiders that also involved other fields like art or music. Today, it has grown to be a mainstream style.
A subculture turned cult phenomenon, a true industry now boasting impressive revenues and luxury collaborations.
An increasing number of designers and brands have been exploring the boundaries of streetwear.
Among them is Givenchy, which has further extended its menswear range to a line that sports a urban twist while maintaining exclusivity: the Downtown collection.
A selection of accessories – key features in every streetwear outfit – such as backpacks, crossbody bags, nylon duffle bags and bum bags designed for the modern traveler, slaloming around the city or embarking on faraway adventures.
An ode to functionality, Downtown only indulges in basic colors like black and white, with a subtle red hint and a floral print, perfectly balanced with clean lines and standard materials such as leather or fabric.
Indeed, the collection aims to sort out various looks, from the most active to the formal, all through cult, clearly recognizable pieces.
In the past few months, brand recognition has resulted in a true logomania: the obsession of all high-end labels, which have been stamping their block-letter logos on T-shirts and accessories.
This is why a white Givenchy label with a red line appears on the Downtown pieces, while some bags showcase a V inlay with an eggplant piping.
Currently available on the label’s official website, the collection followed the launch of a new American e-commerce platform and the dedicated range.
Cult mania.
