During the Monte-Carlo Fashion Week, which Excellence Magazine attended as a media partner, Italian successful designer Gilberto Calzolari was awarded the Best Emerging Designer Award for his commitment to sustainable fashion.
The designer was rewarded for his ability and talent in combining ethics and aesthetics in his elegant, original and emotional creations.
Born in Milan and already winner of the “Franca Sozzani GCC Award for Best Emerging Designer 2018” at the latest edition of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Calzolari took to the runways at the Monte-Carlo Fashion Week with an exclusive collection focusing on sustainable luxury and experimental green fashion.
On May 17, he presented his latest AW 19/20 collection titled Unnatural, which emphasizes and further conceptualizes the themes of sustainability and respect for the environment.
The collection centers on a filtered nature altered by men, with references to contemporary art and especially to Damien Hirst, and features a “green” selection of materials: Gots certified organic silk, Evo nylon extracted from castor-oil plant seeds, and Seaqual polyester, made from plastics found at sea.
The accessories and embroideries are eco–friendly too, with linings made of 100% recycled fibers from Pet bottles, real high-fashion tulle obtained from upcycled food packaging – nets for citrus fruits, embellished with embroidered waste materials – and embroideries shaped as marvelous flowers in bloom, symbolizing a nature held captive by plastics.
