Nico Cerruti, the peerless pioneer who brought the Italian tailoring tradition to success, passed away yesterday at the age of 91.
We remember him as the man who deconstructed the formal suit whose first label, Hitman, had a young man named Giorgio Armani among its designers.
Nico Cerruti, always one step ahead of others, a life lived with wisdom and humor, the birth of the first elegant men’s pret-à-porter factory, Hitman, in 1957; the first Parisian boutique at the end of the Sixties that sold women’s and men’s clothes together and which had been designed by Vico Magistretti, his great client, the discovery of Giorgio Armani.
