On Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, Venice will host the 7th Principality of Monaco’s Trophy “Le Vele d’Epoca in Laguna”– BNL-BNP PARIBAS PRIVATE BANKING CUP, a traditional competition of vintage sailboats promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice, together with the Principality’s Tourism Board Office in Milan, and with BNL-BNP PARIBAS Private Banking, main sponsor and contributor of the event.
In the waters of the best-known lagoon in the world, the most beautiful classic sailboats of the Adriatic will compete in the race managed and directed by Mirko Sguario, founder of the VeniceYacht Club and promoter of several renowned regattas taking place in Venice, such as the Venice Hospitality Challenge.
The last edition featured boats built between the early ‘90s and the 2000s: theOverall title went to Serenity (1936), while Pia (1947) came in first in Vintage Yachts; the “Classici 1” category went to Strale (1967), while Shahrazad (1970) triumphed in the “Classici 2”. Hwyl (a 1974 project) ranked first in the Free Class.
For the fifth year in a row, the trophy is organized in partnership with the Principality of Monaco’s Tourism Board Office in Milan, the VeniceYacht Club, the PortodiMare sailing club and the Marina Sant’Elena resort. It is sponsored by A.I.V.E. (Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca), the Italian vintage sails association, and supported by prestigious brands such as Diadora, Nature’s and Vhernie. It also relies on media partner Radio Monte Carlo, which will cover the event and feature an interview withAnna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice.
