THE STORY
In the heart of Tuscany, in the Municipality of Montaione between Florence and Volterra, the Castelfalfi Estate has always been a natural paradise, rich in tradition. Toscana Resort Castelfalfi is a medieval village – that has not forgotten its Etruscan origins – carefully restored to maintain its original character and to welcome guests looking for an authentic Tuscan experience. It has played a leading role in nearly one thousand years of history, but in the 1960s it began to suffer population decline which lasted for decades and only ended in 2007 when it was given a new life. The main actor behind the renaissance of Castelfalfi is TUI AG, one of the biggest tour operators in Europe, which decided to buy the property and breathe new life into an area that covers more than 1,100 hectares divided into vineyards, olive groves, forests, lakes and a hunting reserve.

THE VILLAGE AND ITS CASTLE
Strategically positioned – just 60 minutes away from Florence Airport, 40 minutes from Pisa Airport, and a few minutes from the artistic and cultural treasures of Tuscany – Castelfalfi is experiencing a new Renaissance.
The first step in this monumental project has been the revival of the ancient Borgo, the village in which all the main buildings were completely renovated, then divided into 48 apartments of different sizes, with a range of small retail stores on street level. 99% of these real estate units have been sold to international clients, giving a new life to this “Sleeping Beauty”. The beating heart of the village is the Castle, opened in 2014. Within its walls is La Rocca, a restaurant directed by Executive Chef Michele Rinaldi, whose classic cuisine is enhanced by sophisticated techniques, but without forgetting simplicity, tradition and a keen eye for details.
The structure is characterized by a beautiful terrace overlooking the Tuscan countryside, as well as rooms for weddings, meetings and events. In addition, the second floor is home to the Rosso Toscano Cooking School, which offers a full range of classes to satisfy every taste. Castelfalfi’s gastronomic offering is completed by our trattoria-pizzeria Il Rosmarino, which offers Tuscan specialties and delicious pizzas cooked in our wood-fired oven.
The estate also houses many Casali, traditional country villas available for sale or rental, which can be renovated in accordance with the wishes and instructions of their future owners, to jointly create a project that respects their requirements and expectations. These properties enjoy a unique position and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
In addition, the construction of the new residential complex La Collina has been almost completed with a careful environmental upgrading, which will offer 11 newly built housing solutions, perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings, incuding 7 units available thanks to the recovery of an existing farmhouse. All this in the magnificent scenery of the Castelfalfi Golf Club, dominated by the Castle and with a wonderful view over Volterra and the Tuscan countryside.

HOTEL IL CASTELFALFI – TUI BLUE SELECTION

HOTEL LA TABACCAIA
At the opposite end of the Borgo is the former factory where tobacco was dried for Tuscan cigars, which has found a new life as a 4-star boutique hotel, La Tabaccaia. The hotel was restored taking great care with regard to the use of traditional materials and colors, and remaining faithful to the style of the region. Each of the delightful 30 rooms has a Tuscan design and boasts restored beams and terracotta ceilings, which date back to the building’s original construction. At the same time, the furniture of contemporary design offers a modern reflection of the hotel’s rich past, providing comfort and elegance. The rooms and suites provide every modern comfort, such as free Wi-Fi, 32-inch LCD TV with satellite channels, air conditioning and bathrooms in travertino marble with the latest generation of showers.

GOLF
Tuscany is a secret paradise for golfers. Many courses in the region were developed in the nineties, taking advantage of the natural landscape, and Castelfalfi is home to one of the most spectacular in Italy and the biggest in Tuscany. The Golf Castelfalfi Club boasts 27 holes and more than 9,400 square meters of hillsides and meadow set amongst olive groves. The 18 hole Mountain Course (Par 72) covers 6,351 square meters with steep slopes and water hazards, making it one of the exciting Italian layouts and a big attraction to golfers from around the world. The course was redesigned to complement the natural landscape of the area, giving each hole its own character, and with the existing vegetation which provides a sense of privacy to each fairway. The 9-hole Lake Course (Par 37), opened in November 2011, is suitable for every level of experience. Both courses were designed by the award-winning architects Moroder and Preissmann.
