A precious selection exhibiting the work of the Japanese master, author of the first significant intervention that inaugurated the redevelopment of the Tortona area in Milan.
As the Design Week comes to an end, Milan is apparently emptied of the installations and exhibitions that animated all districts during this 2019 edition of FuoriSalone.
And yet, Armani/Silos has set up one event more: with The challenge/ Tadao Ando, the fashion museum has opened to architecture and design for the first time.
This anthological exhibition is devoted to the work of the renowned Japanese architect, the undisputed master of contemporary architecture. Back in 2001, he designed the Teatro Armani theatre, the first of the brand’s buildings to be raised in the Tortona area, as well as the first significant intervention inaugurating the redevelopment of the district, now grown to become the heart of fashion and the creative industry.
Through his pure, elegant approach to space, Tadao Ando has created some of the most peculiar architectures of our times, here told by original sketches and models, video installations, technical drawings, travel journals and pictures, some of which were taken by Tadao Ando himself.
Although Milan’s show is just a smaller version of the greater exhibition presented at Paris’s Centre Pompidou last year, the architect himself took care of the smallest details and designed everything with the Armani/Silos spaces in mind.
The exhibition displays over 50 projects retracing Tadao Ando’s career through his triumphs, such as the Row House, Sumiyoshi – Azuma House (1976), Naoshima (1988-present), and the ongoing works at Paris’s Bourse de Commerce (fall 2019).
